The turbines

A photo of the turbines as seen from Lights Beach, approximately 3.5 kilometres West of the site, showing the cliffs that speed up the wind as it hits the turbines.

The turbines seen from Lights Beach, 3.5km west of the windfarm. Wind velocity increases as it moves up the cliffs, and the turbines benefit from this enhanced windspeed.

An image of a turbine with a cutaway showing the internal workings.

Cutaway of a typical direct-drive wind turbine. These machines have no gearbox, which is a source of heat and energy losses through friction, and was a common failpoint in earlier machines.       —netzeroguide.com
